The
Charleston area abounds with deep waterfront home and home sites,
ideal for panoramic views as well as outstanding recreation. With
fifteen watersheds and thousands of square miles of rivers and
creeks feeding the numerous waterways near the peninsular city and
its surrounding islands, the dock or slip is very common to the
Charleston residential experience. Along the Cooper and Ashley
Rivers that flow into Charleston Harbor, are many exclusive
deep-water properties that include fine homes and condominiums, such
as the Ripley Light Marina community that features private slips and
storage in the very shadow of Charleston's historic skyline. The
five barrier islands surrounding Charleston - Sullivan's Island,
Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island - that
are so well-known for their heralded sandy beaches, also feature
extensive deep-water access with properties on the inland side of
the islands facing the Intracoastal Waterway as well as area rivers
and sounds. Charleston's large sea islands - James Island, Johns
Island and Daniel Island - all have an extensive network of
deep-water rivers and creeks, on which are situated a variety of
premiere residential properties with easy access to in-shore or
off-shore fishing, as well as daily views of egrets, herons, osprey
and dolphins. The mainland areas bordering Charleston in Mount
Pleasant and West Ashley are also interlaced with deep-water rivers
and creeks, and include numerous up-scale homes and homesites with
private docks, slips and landings. Water quality in the Charleston
area is meticulously protected, creating an abundant aquatic habitat
for fish, crabs and shrimp that are readily caught or gathered, as
well as fresh, scenic surroundings for paddlers and boaters who
relish the many active months afforded by a sub-tropical climate.
